Mailbags used to be made of linen. The advantages were obvious: they were robust, durable and breathable, which ensured that letters could be sent safely.
As a rule, they were made of strong, woven linen and additionally reinforced at the seams.
Did you know that the first linen mailbags were used as early as the
19th century? After the postal system had developed, the mailbags were printed in a standardized way.
As a rule, the sender was printed, e.g. “Deutsche Reichspost”, and often also the destination.
Modern plastics are now used for the mailbags. The old mailbags are now particularly popular with collectors and vintage enthusiasts.

Früher waren Postsäcke aus Leinen. Die Vorteile lagen auf der Hand: Sie waren robust, langlebig und atmungsaktiv, wodurch der sichere Versand von Briefen gewährleistet werden konnte.
In der Regel wurden sie aus starkem, gewebtem Leinen hergestellt und an den Nähten zusätzlich verstärkt.

Mittlerweile werden moderne Kunststoffe für die Postsäcke verwendet. Die alten Postsäcke sind mittlerweile vor allem bei Sammlern und Vintage-Liebhabern begehrt.
